Entrepreneurship Series #2: Opportunities at Penn

Written by Irene Jiang (W’25); Edited by Juliette Santulin (W’25)

There are many opportunities to learn about entrepreneurship or become a student-entrepreneur right here on Penn’s campus! No matter what your major is, there are chances to listen to guest speakers who are entrepreneurs or start your own business.

This past week, I had the chance to speak to the lovely Basma Enany, a fellow member of the Walnut Street Journal! She is currently a freshman in Wharton and is involved with the Wharton Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Club (WUEC) as a member of the finance committee. She joined WUEC because “entrepreneurship has always been something [she has] been passionate about and [she] thought the best way to start was to meet other people who were passionate about it. With WUEC you are in a community of entrepreneurs who all share similar goals.” Basma also really enjoys the networking opportunities that WUEC offers.

When asked about what the word entrepreneur means to her, she thinks of “a  passionate risk taker who makes mistakes, learns from them, and works hard to achieve their goals in creating something or improving something.”

As to why Basma enjoys entrepreneurship so much, she says, “I want to create something of my own and be able to have the freedom to take large risks and either take the consequences or enjoy the success. I want something of my own that I can use my own skills to grow and I think that’s part of the basis of entrepreneurship.”

If you would like to join WUEC and a community of students interested in entrepreneurship like Basma, please visit their Penn Clubs website here

Outside of the Wharton Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Club, there are also many other opportunities for students to explore the industry or get directly involved:

If you are involved in another entrepreneurship-related activity, organization, or space at Penn and don’t see it listed above, please reach out to the Walnut Street Journal. We would love to expand this list as much as possible!
