But they all have a few things in common: a passion to write and an interest in business. Meet the talented Wharton women behind the Walnut Street Journal!

Name: Preethi Jayaraman

Hometown: Dallas, TX

Year: 2025  

Major: Entrepreneurship + Marketing 

Why they joined WSJ: I have always had a passion for writing in several mediums, like blogs, poetry, narratives, etc. Also, as a queer Indian woman, I want to represent minority groups through my writing, which is one of the values WW cares most about!

Fun fact: I collect sneakers and I currently have 20+ pairs :)

Why they joined WSJ: I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and challenge my writing and creativity skills

Why they joined WSJ: An opportunity to write about amazing women with fellow amazing women

Fun fact: My concussion in 9th grade led to my teacher following in love with the EMT who saved me

Why they joined WSJ: I love how the Walnut Street Journal interconnects business and journalism together while working with a great group of girls! Journalism has always been a creative outlet for myself to explore the world, and I could not think of anything more perfect than the WSJ!

Fun fact: I learned how to crochet recently and love to make stuffed animals!

Why they joined WSJ: I’ve always loved writing and thought the Walnut Street Journal was a great way to explore that passion while working towards empowering women in business. 

Fun fact: I had to take a boat every day to go to middle school and high school!

Why they joined WSJ: While I’ve previously been part of a magazine, I’ve never had the chance to publish writing and wanted to combine that with business. The community of Wharton Women and WSJ seemed like the perfect place to do so!

Fun fact: I’m a dual Canadian-American citizen!

Why they joined WSJ: I am interested in different aspects of business as potential career paths down the line and found that the WSJ lied at the intersection of this interest and my love for writing! The other staff members are also really enthusiastic about the journal so it’s been a joy getting to work on it. 

Fun fact: My birthday is on St. Patrick’s Day!

Why they joined WSJ: I personally journal and find it to be a fun habit that provides a lot of perspective. I wanted to join the WSJ to share the important news and highlights that are worth dedicating time to. Also, Carson and my fellow committee members are really cool people that I can learn from!

Why they joined WSJ: I hope to amplify the voices of powerful women in our community here at Penn and share knowledge on the intersection between business and health care.
